442 BROCK explores the concept of creating a dwelling that is separated from the existing house on the lot, and yet is simultaneously connected through the garden backyard space. This concept is further expressed internally through the spatial organization of the house, in which the staircase acts as a connecting spine, both separating the kitchen and living space, while also unifying the two levels.
Located at College and Dufferin in Toronto, this lot is the perfect location to design a laneway house that could act as a personal residence during my remaining time completing the Masters program. The house resembles the surrounding laneway buildings in size, however it is through the material selection that I hope to highlight the difference in the design between not only the existing laneway buildings, but also the existing house on the lot.
