As an unfinished piece of transit infrastructure, the Allen Expressway creates traffic congestion, poorly planned intersections, dead end streets and the presence of discontinuous green spaces that leaves a negative impact in the surrounding community.

The Allen Art Way aims to enhance the existing conditions of this failed piece of infrastructure. The design recognizes the schism created by the expressway and unifies the site through the process of "stitching" the existing but fragmented park spaces together. The buildings represent a mixed typology of built and open space such as paths, courtyards, or squares, ensuring that despite densification, there will still remain a permeable ground level allowing a unique and changing experience for all. Implementing a continuous path system, accompanied by a built environment and sculptural artwork, the Allen Expressway can now exist as an urban sculptural walk, attracting visitors to the site as the new Art District of Toronto.
